Following the adoption of the European Union’s counterterrorism strategy, the fight against violent extremism has become one of the key objectives of the EU’s external action, in particular in the area of its neighbourhood. But what is the European Union and local key partners really doing to prevent violent extremism in Middle East?

This question is at the heart of the Horizon2020 PREVEX research project. Thanks to the collaboration of researchers from Europe and the Middle East, a new Policy Brief takes stock of the strategies and funding projects through which the EU and key partners implement its commitment to prevent and counter violent extremism in practice.

This café debate webinar offers an opportunity to present the results of the Policy Brief and stimulate an exchange with experts on violent extremism in the Middle East and the EU’s policy to prevent it. The online format enables voices from the field to be collected and brought to the attention of policymakers, with a view to helping the international community, and the EU in particular, to develop a more sensitive and effective approach to prevention and countering violent extremism.
